In August of 2024, the Smyrna Yacht Club (SYC) located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, lost its General Manager of 8.5 years to greener pastures. The Board of Governors wisely decided to engage the services of a professional recruitment organization to assist in finding a replacement. After reviewing several proposals, GSI was engaged. Ned Welc was assigned by GSI to our project. Our charge was to get the deed done as soon as possible with a goal of getting a new General Manager on board by November 1, 2024. Our new GM’s first day was October 29, 2024. This was my second rodeo, having been on the committee that selected the previous general manager in-house without professional assistance. We lucked out and got a good manager, but the difference in the process between that and the current effort was night and day. GSI provided a lot of value for their fee.
